Gesture Drawing

The influence of gesture drawing is seen here in this study by Delacroix who famously said "If you are not skillful enough to sketch a man jumping out of a window in the time it takes him to fall from the fourth storey to the ground, you will never be able to produce great works."

Various student examples of gesture drawing.

Gesture with contour line (left and center) and gesture with intercross (right).

Weight Drawings (only horizontal lines used to fill the form of the figure)

Gesture will eventually give way to other investigations such as value.
