Planar Structure: Still-Life With Value

In the first two images presented here of student work, value does not overtake the linear emphasis of planar structure. However in some of the drawings below you will notice that it does or that the planar breaks become ever more subtle. This is an important distinction to make because planar structure is really  more of a way of thinking about form and ultimately it should give way, as the student progresses, to a less obvious style of delineating form. However, even in some of the drawings below, where the planar structure is very subtle, notice some of the thumbnail sketches around the main drawing, that break the object down into its most simple planar shapes. Most of the work here is from University of the Arts with the first two images being from Tyler School of Art (both schools located in Philadelphia).
